Keeping lone workers safe with personal emergency alarm technology

Hermes is the UK’s leading consumer delivery specialist. Many of its employees are delivery/collection drivers who work alone. Lone worker safety is a priority for Hermes, so they’ve partnered with Peoplesafe to provide personal alarms using a mobile app.

Peoplesafe is an industry leading UK-based service provider centred around the safety of lone and at-risk workers. It protects over 150,000 employees in over 100 NHS trusts, 150 local authorities, 200 housing associations and hundreds of commercial organisations.

The challenge

We were approached by our client, Peoplesafe, to design a landing page showcasing their services to Hermes employees and to devise a simple way for them to subscribe to Peoplesafe via eCommerce.

Digital design

The purpose of the landing page is to inform Hermes employees about Peoplesafe’s personal emergency alarm service and to persuade them to subscribe and get the app.

We ensured clear and consistent Peoplesafe and Hermes branding on the landing page (and the subscription sign-up page), with the pages offering outstanding accessibility and mobile responsive design.

Landing Page Design

We kept the landing page simple and uncluttered, for clean and clear navigation and more focused user engagement.

The value proposition appears above the fold highlighted in contrasting colour to the background to draw user attention: ‘Protect your personal safety for less that 20p a day’. A ‘Find out how’ call to action within the highlighted section draws the user down the page.

Simple text is used at the top of the page with more information being imparted as the user scrolls, drawing them towards conversion. This includes:

  • Simple ‘how it works’ graphic
  • Short examples of how the service protects workers
  • App and service information
  • Pricing
  • Brochure download button for more in-depth information

The page includes three subscription sign-up CTAs—one at the top, one at the bottom and a sticky side tab to enable sign-up at any time during scrolling.

At the bottom of the page we included a FAQ section, the opportunity for users to ask a specific question, and a call back request to help capture leads.

When a Hermes employee converts and clicks to sign-up they are taken to a short form where they can quickly and easily set up their subscription.

Pardot and Smart Debit API integration

When Hermes employees set-up their monthly Peoplesafe subscription they are also required to make an initial payment. To facilitate this, we created an eCommerce solution that connects Peoplesafe’s marketing automation system, Pardot, with the Smart Debit API.

Pardot and Smart Debit API eCommerce

When Hermes employees set-up their monthly Peoplesafe subscription they are also required to make an initial payment. To facilitate this, we created an eCommerce solution that connects Peoplesafe’s marketing automation system, Pardot, with the Smart Debit API.

Smart Debit

We chose to use Smart Debit as the payment gateway because it not only offers highly secure, independently accredited services, but also for its functionality, such as performing standalone direct debit verification requests and extended parameters.

Pardot/Smart Debit Integration

The Pardot/Smart Debit integration enables Peoplesafe to quickly, seamlessly and securely take payment and set-up direct debits for Hermes employees. All they need to do is provide some personal information and their bank details, in much the same way as making any purchase via an online checkout—giving the subscription sign-up process a reassuring familiarity.

The subscription form is created in Pardot, so all subscriber information is stored within Peoplesafe’s CRM, enabling Peoplesafe to easily manage new subscriptions and build ongoing relationships with Hermes subscribers.

Conclusion

We created a landing page user experience that’s engaging and intuitive for Hermes employees to navigate, and a fast, simple shorter form payment and subscription process to help maximise Peoplesafe sign-ups.

The landing and subscription pages make it easy for Hermes lone workers to discover Peoplesafe and get the emergency alarm app that will help keep them safe at work.
