HairCo & Beauty is a wholesale hair and beauty supplier, selling hair colour, beauty accessories, and electrical equipment to salons worldwide.

The challenge

HairCo & Beauty’s old website had been operational for seven years – a long time in the world of eCommerce!

The site didn’t just look boring but had gradually become slower and less responsive over time. In HairCo & Beauty’s own words it was ‘a pain in the piñata!’

HairCo & Beauty wanted a modern website aligned with the colourful, playful branding used on social media. It was important that the site loaded quickly, was simple to navigate, and made it easy for customers to buy everything they needed to run their salons.

New features to make online shopping a breeze

After HairCo & Beauty approached us, we arranged a meeting to understand more about what the team wanted and how we could improve the user experience.

HairCo & Beauty wanted to stick with its existing eCommerce platform (WooCommerce). However, it needed a more bespoke online store customised to its needs rather than the previous, off-the-shelf eCommerce solution.

With over 29,000 customers, making the site easy for existing clients to buy from was critical. Many customers regularly reordered the same products, and on the old site, there wasn’t an easy way to replicate an order.

We implemented a ‘reorder’ function, meaning customers could select a previous order in just one click, saving valuable time.

Our team of WooCommerce developers customised the search functionality to make it easy for customers to find the right products, implementing live search and introducing product thumbnails.

The feature we’re most proud of, built especially for HairCo & Beauty, is the swatch colour selector.

Let’s say a customer wants to order multiple shades of the same hair colour product. On the old site, they would have to choose each colour individually, a frustrating experience which led to errors and abandoned carts. The new swatch colour selector means they can buy all the colours they need from one page.

We migrated products, customers, and order history from the old site to the new site, with QA testing to ensure everything looked and worked correctly on all devices and browsers.

The results

HairCo & Beauty’s new website launched at the start of November. This is so the business could capitalise on Black Friday and the upsurge in hair and beauty appointments in the run-up to Christmas.

The team was delighted with the new functionality and how the site design perfectly encapsulated the company’s fresh and fun branding. The customers invited to test the new site before launch loved the enhanced search bar and how easy it was to reorder their favourite products.
