What is it?

Well, video production is exactly as the name suggests: producing a video. But as you can imagine, there’s a lot more to it. There’s a process to video production, from pre-production all the way to post production.

There are typically three steps when it comes to producing the perfect video.

Pre-Production

Also known as the planning stage, is where we discuss what it is you are looking to put together. This is the point where ideas are circulating and dates are booked. All the most important elements of the video will be decided and a manager and/or producer will be appointed at this stage.

Just like with every project, no matter how small, it’s important that we plan everything out with you. At this stage meetings are usually planned to discuss every part of the process. This enables the producer and/or manger to clearly communicate to other members what the expected/desired results are so everyone is on the same page.

Location, Script, Graphics etc. are all agreed and finalised at this stage, so you can imagine that this phase can be very long as every detail is discussed and agreed on. Every effort is made by the team at Xigen to make this process as smooth as possible so that you can be confident we will produce exactly the video you need.

Production

Depending on what you want out of your video, the production will either involve studio time or a change in location. Any filming will probably be done using high definition cameras, and lighting will be sorted to ensure the video turns out great!

The footage filmed will be reviewed at certain times to ensure quality is maintained throughout, and it’s possible that scenes might be shot more than once just to ensure there are enough options.

Post-Production

This is usually the longest and most complicated part of the process. Post-Production involves a lot of editing – which is a process in its own – editors usually create a rough cut of the editing before they begin to get it finished. The first part of post-production is to lay out the video in a story form ensuring the message is clearly there.

The rough cut is then viewed by everyone involved before we send it to you to review. Once everyone is happy with the rough cut, then everything such as audio, music and graphics are added just to clean everything up.

A second edit is then done just to really tighten up the story and to make sure graphics and audio are completely perfect. After the second edit, there will be another viewing of the video. Once everything has been agreed on, the final cut will then be uploaded on the decide date.

That’s it! Easy, wasn’t it? We hope we cleared up any issues and answered every question you had about what we at Xigen can achieve for you and your Video Production needs!
